Busy Week

Ok, I have been very lazy about posting this week. Work has been busy and I am just too tired to get on the computer when I get home. Anyway, I had an ultrasound on Monday and it was awesome! The baby was moving around like crazy and was kicking and moving its arms. Even though he/she was moving, the doctor couldn't get a good measurement on the length and the ultrasound program only had me at 11 weeks and I should be at 14. So, my doctor is going to to another ultrasound at my next appointment. I can't wait!

Work has been slowing down from the insanity that was the past three months. I am still very busy and August is the end of our company's fiscal year so things are going to be crazy next week. Good news is that I finally got my bonus! It was very good and I will be able to pay off a few bills so things are looking better money wise for after the baby is born.

I haven't told my boss my after baby plans, I know I am not going to work full time and am not sure if I will even work part time. It all depends on how much I will get paid, assuming I will move from salary to hourly, and how much daycare costs. There is a Kindercare very close to work that I am going to check out. Work has been so stressful and annoying the past few months that I am not even sure I want to continue there. I guess I really won't know how I feel about working until the baby gets here. It is all alot to think about.

B.J. is awesome to the max!!!

The Onion Never Fails

This article on The Onion was so hilarious I was crying. Since my beloved Cleveland Indians suck this year (except for Travis Hafner) the Reds games are always watched in the Hanley house.

An Inconvenient Truth

I finally have time to blog about this movie. Last Wednesday my sister and I saw "An Inconvenient Truth" which we have been wanting to see for awhile. The theater was about half full which was surprising for a Wednesday night. If you are not familiar with the movie, it is a documentary about Al Gore's speeches about global warming. The movie is not overly political, but there are of course a few good coments about the Bush administration's environmental policy. (It sucks) But overall I felt that it was well presented, even though it was all stuff I had heard before. I expecially liked the pictures of various glaciers around the world that have dramatically melted in the last 30+ years. These glaciers have been around for ten thousand years, only to melt almost completely away in less than 100 years.

A geologist's view of global warming (mine): The earth has gone through many warming and cooling cycles in it's 4.5 billion year history. The last ice age ended 10,000 years ago and it is natural for the earth to get warmer. What is alarming is the rate that the earth is warming. Normally climate change is gradual, but there is overwhelming evidence that the earth is warming at such a speedy pace that people/animals are not having time to adapt. Most people think 1,000 years is a long time, but to geologists 1,000 years is like one second. When you compare 1,000 or even 10,000 years to the age of the Earth they are like seconds on the hour. So in no time at all, the Earth is warming with humans being the primary cause.

I don't feel that the global warming issue is a republican/democrat political issue, as people from both parties agree that it is happening. It is a an issue that concerns every person on the Earth. Everybody can do little things to help slow the warming process: turn off lights when not in use, use energy efficient appliances, drive a low emmision car, plant a tree, recycle. Everybody can make a diference.

End of personal rant.

A Death In The Chimney

It's been a crazy week, not only has work been super busy and annoying, we had some interesting household events. About a week ago Flanagan became very interested in the fireplace. I had heard some odd rustling noises so I figured there was a bird or some animal in there. Well Wednesday we get home from work and there is a horrible smell all throughout the house, I would say it was similar to bad chicken. This causes me to gag due to my heightened pregnancy senses. The smell is overpowering to me and does cause me to vomit later that evening. B.J. opens the glass doors to the fireplace and does not see anything so whatever has died is up in the chimney. He then covers the opening with plastic sheeting left over from our winters with crappy windows. This helps a little bit, but the smell lingers. Thursday morning I call a few chimney places and finally find one who gets rid of dead animals. They quote me $300 and I make an appointment with Abbey Road Chimney Sweeps. B.J. finds this price outrageous, but I was willing to spend whatever it takes. I make an appointment for 5:00.

I receive a call at 1:30 from the Abbey Road guy and he checks to see if they can come earlier so I leave work at 3:00 to meet them at 3:30 at the house. One of the guys is already on the roof and informs me there is definately something dead in chimney and that there isn't a cap to prevent animals from getting in. He can put two caps on for $95 each, we do this because I never want to have the smell of death in my house again. After the guys put the caps on the chimney they come in and get to work on the fireplace. It turn out that there were FIVE DEAD SQUIRRELS in the chimney. One was stinking up the place, the other four were mummified. Gross!! In less than an hour they have cleaned and deoderized the chimney/fireplace. So one hour and $418 later we are rid of dead squirrels. I never want this to happen ever again, it was so disgusting.
The Fireplace of Death!!!!

Later that evening I escape the house and my sister and I watch "An Inconvenient Truth" at the Danbarry Dollar Saver theater. This was the cheapest part of my day since the movie cost $2.50. I will blog about the movie later, as it was very good.

So Far So Good

Well I am now 12 weeks pregnant and I am feeling pretty good. My afternoon nausea has gone away and has been replaced with afternoon hunger. I guess this is a good sign. I am still tired and have no energy in the evening, I should probably be walking more, but it's been way too hot. I cannot stand this 90 degree weather. For the past month I have had some kind of insomnia, no problem falling asleep just staying asleep after I get up to pee about three times a night. This is probably nature's way to prepare the mother to get up every two hours for feedings. It is very annoying because I usually have weird dreams during this time. I also get dull headaches throughout the day, this may be caused by pregnancy or work. Who knows. Overall I feel good, I am now just anticipating my stomach getting bigger and my next doctor appointment where we will hear the heartbeat and I think have an ultrasound. Hopefully all will be well, I will be anxious until then!

Is "Suck" a bad word?

I read this great article on Slate.com today about the work "suck". I find the whole idea of a bad word or curse word to be kind of funny. It's just a word people, get over it.

If there was an award for stupidity...

Check out this article from a local Dayton news website. B.J. thought it was an article from The Onion, but no, the guy was really that stupid. Hilarious!
